Cannes, to the glitz and glamour of the Riviera
Cannes gleams on the surface. Start on the great, curving Croisette Promenade. Since British aristocrats rolled into what was then a fishing village in the 1830s, there are few city promenades more dazzling than La Croisette. What sets Cannes apart is the shiny varnish with which it has coated these elements. Stroll back, in front of the grand palace hotels lined up, and the fashion boutiques. Appreciate the spectacle and run to the Palais des Festivals, home of the May International Film Festival.
And so the story of a little city in the South of France continues to hold the world’s attention. the place to be.
Have a tipple at the one of the numerous shades terraces of “Les Allées Charles de Gaulle”, in front of the old port.
Saint-Tropez, the Riviera most A-list market town
St Tropez is, quite simply, the most famous resort in France. By the Forties and Fifties, the village was a summertime extension of the left bank from Paris. Then Bardot merged in ‘And God Created Woman’, moving localized libertinage into a worldwide reputation for illicit enjoyment. The place never looked back.
Nothing succeeds like excess
Saint-Tropez is home of the rich, the great and the A-listers, whose obsession with air-headed extravagance can get on the nerves. But this is vital to keeping the city in the world spotlight. The surroundings help, too. The wooded, rocky St Tropez peninsula is outstanding, the views across the sea to the Maures mountains are spectacular. It is, though, only the sheen. It blinds a multilayered life, from villa evening’s parties through to locals going to the local market with baskets to do their daily shopping.
Monaco, in the footsteps of F1 pilots
Run since 1929, Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix is widely considered to be one of the most prestigious automobile races in the world. The circuit has been called “an exceptional location of glamour and prestige”.
Of course, the place is a packed little bubble of extravagance and luxury. But it’s also a spectacle, a captivating show, unique in Europe.
The principality would, after all, fit more than 300 times into France, managed by a Prince.
Start up on the Rock where Monaco itself born. For the daily changing of the guard, be before the Princely Palace at 11.55am. Then stroll the narrow streets of the old town. Explore the wonderful Oceanographic Museum, before going down to the Port Hercule. Admire the wonderful yachts and next, climb the other headland to Monte Carlo.
Monte Carlo is the central district of Monaco around the world-known Café de Paris, the Monte Carlo Casino, and the Opera. Built in the 19th century by Charles Garnier – also architect for the Paris Opera – the inside of the opera building really is worth seeing for its grandeur and opulence.
The gardens around the casino are also very lovely and you like to wander the Japanese gardens on Avenue Princess-Grace.
Lamborghini Huracan Spyder, extreme Lamborghini
The Lamborghini Huracan Spyder opens up to allow that glorious V10 to be heard in full and is so fantastic to drive hair in the wind.
Yet when the right moment comes and you find enough space in which to let rage, the Spyder still delivers the full supercar experience. Its 5.2 Litre V10 engine sounds utterly magnificent when doing so. The engine is the same as Audi R8 and is an atmospheric one. So as there are no turbochargers, the response to the throttle is instant, and epic. Scroll up through the Spyder’s three drive programs of Strada (street), Sport and Corsa (race) and get started.
In Corsa mode, the comfort levels take a pretty big hit and it isn’t long before you scroll back down to Strada.
Huracan is extremely fast, procures tons of fun and is comfortable in everyday use
Lamborghini Urus, a fire-breathing super SUV
More than any other SUV, it looks wild and exotic.
The Urus is as far from the LM002 model as it is from Lamborghini’s Huracán and Aventador monsters.
Firstly, it‘s five-seat, four-door SUV
Secondly, the Urus is an attempt to team supercar speed with crossover practicality
And ultimately, it’s one of the most impressive vehicles you’ll drive
Is the Urus a real Lamborghini ? Yes !
