One of the conditions of returning a rental car to a different location is a mandatory charge known as a “drop fee” or a one-way car rental fee. Domestic One-Way Fee

We fix the fee following the location and renting duration, as long as a minimum rental period is met. For instance, a one-way travel over a week to Marseille with a pick up in Nice airport is totally free. The actual cost of a drop fee will vary based on your itinerary. Most most domestic drop fees aren’t over 150€.

International One-Way Fee

For a trip from one country to another, an international one-way fee is almost always required, and tends to be much more costly. International fees for rental bookings in Europe ranged from 150€ – we are next to the Italian Border – ⁠up to 2.000€ for south of Italy.

Is a one-way luxury car rental more expensive?

As mentioned, most one-way luxury car hire itineraries will add a charge to your final rate. A standard one-way fee for a car hire from Paris to Monaco is around 950€ for a SUV, and from Cannes to Barcelona, it is around 475€.

Car4rent recommends travelers visiting multiple countries consider making separate or multiple bookings to avoid the drop charge when possible.
